Style Guides

As the dedicated UX writer for Quentic, a company specializing in integrated EHSQ and ESG software solutions, I was responsible for developing and maintaining a comprehensive style guide aimed at enhancing our user interface copy.

Role: UX Writer The Quentic UX Writing Style Guide is a detailed document that serves as a foundation for all user-facing content within the Quentic Platform and Quentic App. The primary goal of the style guide is to provide proper guidance for writing user interface copy that is clear, concise, and consistent with the company's voice and tone. By following the guidelines outlined in the style guide, we ensure that all UI text effectively supports users in what they want to do, making their interactions with the Quentic software seamless and intuitive. The style guide is structured into several key sections: Goals and principles: - Outlining the fundamental objectives and guiding principles for our UX writing. Voice and tone: - Defining the unique voice and tone that reflect Quentic’s brand identity. Style and usage: - Providing rules for grammar, punctuation, and overall writing style. UI elements: - Specific guidelines for writing various UI components, such as confirmations, empty states, errors, buttons, checkboxes, drop-down menus, and dashboards. Accessibility and inclusion: - Guidelines for ensuring all content is accessible and inclusive to all users. Writing for translation: - Guidelines for creating content that can be easily and accurately translated into multiple languages. Creating structured content: - Techniques for organizing content in a way that is logical and user-friendly, especially with regards to Quentic's online user help. Word list: - A comprehensive list of preferred terminology and phrases.

My role and challenges

In developing this style guide, I took on the responsibility of creating a cohesive and comprehensive document that could serve as a reference for all UX writers and designers at Quentic. I conducted extensive research and collaborated with team members to ensure that the guide met the needs of our users and aligned with Quentic's brand values.

One of the biggest challenges I faced was ensuring consistency across a wide range of content types and UI elements, while maintaining a consistent voice and tone. Another major challenge was making the guide user-friendly and easy to navigate so that team members could quickly find the information they needed.

To overcome these challenges, I reviewed the content with others in my department and incorporated their feedback to refine the guide. The end result is a robust resource that provides clear guidance on how to write effective UI copy that helps users achieve their goals within the Quentic Platform and Quentic App.
